Congratulations to Jesse Goddard on his PhD confirmation!
2025, Feburary
Congratulations to Jesse on successfully completing his PhD confirmation!
Jesse’s research delves into the interior material environments of electric vehicles, with a unique focus on how different materials come together to create atmosphere and mood. Initially centered on material perception, his study evolved after discovering the concept of atmosphere, a term with philosophical roots and practical applications in interior design, stage design, and architecture. This shift allowed Jesse to reframe his research around the multi-sensory experience of the vehicle cabin, identifying a significant gap in how atmosphere is shaped through material choice.
Jesse’s confirmation panel featured experts from both the School of Design and the School of Architecture and Built Environment, who provided valuable feedback to refine and strengthen his research direction. He was also supported on the day by his supervisors, Associate Professor Rafael Gomez, Dr Shayne Beaver, and Associate Professor Robbie Napper from Monash University, along with his wife and the team at the BMW Group and QUT Design Academy.
Now officially in his second year, Jesse is entering the data collection phase of his PhD, with plans to conduct studies, publish papers, and present at conferences over the coming year.
We are excited to see how Jesse’s work continues to evolve. Well done on reaching this important milestone!
