An Unforgettable Year With BMW Group in Munich

With the end of 2023 comes the end of my wonderful year at BMW TechOffice Munich. I have grown so much over the year, both professionally and personally, and am lucky to have enjoyed so many amazing experiences. My Blender modelling and animation skills increased dramatically over the year, and I learned how to use Omniverse Isaac Sim and USD Composer. Although not working with AI directly, I learned so much about AI and its use cases and was able to contribute to several AI projects. I was also featured by NVIDIA, which was an awesome experience and allowed me to interact with some really cool 3D artists.

While initially a bit grim for someone accustomed to warm and sunny Brisbane, Munich ended up being a beautiful city that comes alive in the summertime and has plenty to offer as the weather cools again. Oktoberfest with a crowd of students from all over the world was so much fun, and it was lovely to experience a real autumn with red leaves and piles of pumpkins for sale at local fields. Early December brought record levels of snowfall which was the perfect setting to explore the gorgeous Christmas markets in. Roaming the stunning white streets at night after work, starting snowball fights with strangers and trying to ski in my shoes down the hills in Olympia Park are memories I will treasure forever.

Perhaps the best part of the internship was getting to know other interns that came from a broad range of countries. My office was made up of students from Lebanon and Germany, and other offices I mixed with had students from Italy, Spain, Ukraine, India and more. It was fascinating to learn about so many different cultures and see where our cultures differ and overlap, and it’s awesome that I now have friends all over the world.

Despite my frequent daydreaming about the beach, I will miss Munich, my office and all the brilliant people I met there dearly. I am so grateful to the TechOffice and the BMW Group + QUT Design Academy for this life-changing opportunity, and I highly recommend this experience!
